Grundy County Sheriff Keeps His Certification

Grundy County Sheriff Heath Gunter

Grundy County Sheriff Heath Gunter can keep his law enforcement certification after agreeing to terms set by the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission on Thursday.

That’s the result of Thursday morning’s hearing before the POST Commission, which came after audits found issues within the department last year.

Part of the agreement from the POST commission was that if Gunter breaks any of the settlement terms, he will be immediately decertified.

Under the agreement, Sheriff Gunter admitted two violations and will forego his state pay for two years.
