In a significant move to streamline operations, spirits giant Brown-Forman Corp. announced on Tuesday that it will reduce its global workforce by approximately 12% and close its barrel-making facility in Louisville. This decision comes as American whiskey producers grapple with evolving consumer trends and the threat of renewed tariffs.
The Louisville plant, which specializes in crafting barrels for aging and storing the company’s spirits, will cease operations by April 25. The closure will impact around 210 employees as part of the company’s broader strategy to reduce its workforce from 5,400 worldwide.
On a positive note, the company confirmed that its Jack Daniels facility in Lynchburg will remain unaffected by the layoffs, which will provide some relief to employees there.
