Area Coaching Legend Passes Away Wednesday Morning

Ricky Richards, former head coach of the Grundy County Lady Jackets who led them to a state title in 1998, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Tracy City on Wednesday morning. He was 76. According to the family, he fell asleep in his favorite chair and did not wake up.

The Grundy County High School gym is named in honor of Ricky Richards. At one time in his career, he coached both the boys and girls elementary teams in Tracy City before moving up to the high school level. He is a member of the Grundy County Hall of Fame.
